I Just Needed a Chance to Work Again

I Just Needed a Chance to Work Again

HopeWorks interested me because I needed a job. After becoming homeless, I applied to more than 50 jobs with no success. For the past year, I have been staying at the Modesto Gospel Mission and volunteering for the last six months, doing whatever I could to stay active and contribute. Still, finding employment felt out of reach.

I want to be a productive member of society again. I want a home. I want to provide for my family. I want the stability that many people take for granted.

Now that I’m part of HopeWorks, I’m working toward full-time employment, reliable transportation, and permanent housing. The simple things—like having a car or a place to call home—mean everything to me right now.

I would encourage anyone experiencing homelessness to step forward and join this program. HopeWorks gives you the opportunity to work, serve the community, and earn income. You’re also supported by a case manager who helps with hiring documents and connects you to valuable resources.

I am a hard worker. I show up and I strive to do everything with excellence. All I needed was an opportunity to prove it.
